The 2026 World Cup is the longest in history: 104 matches in 39 days, from the opening game on 11 June to the final on 19 July. Seventy-two of those are group-stage fixtures (six per group across three matchdays), followed by 31 knockout ties and the third-place play-off. By comparison, every edition from 1998 to 2022 had just 64 matches — 2026 adds nearly two-thirds more football.

Matches are spread across 16 host cities — eleven in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada. For viewers in Malaysia the time zones are the awkward part: kickoffs in North America land roughly between midnight and noon Malaysian time, with most marquee evening fixtures starting in the early hours MYT.
